I’m in a moment of transition working out what retirement means. If this was the cricket game of life, retirement from the first innings means that I get another go later in the match. Meanwhile a month in Koli, Finland, has certainly recharged the batteries of curiosity; now on return to Nottingham I have been celebrated by friends and colleagues in overwhelming tributes for which I am heartened and extremely grateful.
Maybe the next chapter isn’t simply about sorting out the accumulated detritus of the previous 50 years and wondering where I left my slippers.
